As a white man (because everyone has to say their race in the comments) from the South, none of these offerings screamed "soul" to me. Southern cuisine could be considered an ethnic cuisine and I ate many of these offerings in my family, save for maybe chicken and waffles (which I ate first in the military and I prefer it with gravy instead of syrup) and shrimp and grits (which is more of a creole dish). But, we ate lots of fried chicken, grits, banana pudding, sweet potatoes, collard greens, etc., and drank sweet tea.

Please show us the person who made the food.

Chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits aren’t “soulfood”…. Everything else is what we consider “Soulfood” but not the chicken and waffles or the shrimp and grits… most black people never had either…. Soul food was good prepared by our ancestors with the scraps and bits of things they were thrown from master and what they could grow themselves…. No slaves had waffle irons and very few had shrimp
